Complete the Dachstein Round by E-Bike

A circuit of the Dachstein is rich and varied also in terms of the local scenery. The route includes glistening Lake Hallstatt, the lush pastureland of the Ausseerland and the Ennstal Valley. From 2014 onwards it will also be possible to take the less strenuous option and complete the „eBike Dachstein Round“ by eBike.

Hardened bikers have completed the entire circuit in just one day, but that is extremely ambitious. Ultimately, the Dachstein Round is a circular tour of one of the most impressive mountains in Austria, and is ever popular with hikers. The route is 230 km long, and there are numerous vantage points from which to capture some stunning views. The tour also includes breath-takingly steep rock faces, gentle stretches of shore line and lush pasture land. The Dachstein is vast and has an incredible circumference that straddles 3 federal states.

A section of the ever-popular Dachstein Round has been adapted and sign-posted for eBikers. Available from spring through to autumn, this makes for a re-vitalising 4 day experience. It is possible to start from various points along the Dachstein Round, but many cyclists choose to begin their tour in the Salzkammergut. One of the gentlest sections of the route is along the eastern shore of Lake Hallstatt from where there are stunning views of Hallstatt‘s historic community. This old salt mining community has a charm and ambiance all of its own.

It’s well worth making a detour ...

After all the hustle and bustle of the boat trip across the lake to the village you will appreciate the peace and quiet and time to yourself. Another unforgetable view is the one from Bad Aussee towards the Dachstein before you continue your E-Bike route towards Bad Mitterndorf. Along the way you will pass the Trautenfels stately home, and the E-Bike route covers parts of the Styrian Ennstal valley to the south side of the Dachstein massif. You will also have opportunities to explore rich, dense woodland, enjoy watching the cattle graze and stop off at rustic huts or traditional restaurants serving home-cooked food. There are many of these along the route.

One recommendation would be the "Seeraunzn“ restaurant on the lake shore in Bad Goisern. Here they serve freshly caught fish whilst you sit and relax on the stunning terrace. Your appetite will now be sated, and your soul refreshed too after admiring such stunning views. The Dachstein Round is a once in a lifetime experience that can be shared with friends, a bigger group, or might be a special treat just for you. The E-Bike and traditional mountain bike routes cross at various points along the way, so there are numerous opportunities to meet up and complete the final section of the route together.

So: Brush the dust off your bike. The Dachstein Round is simply beautiful and will take your breath away, whether you choose to complete it by E-Bike or by sheer muscle power.
