Hike around the Gosaukamm

First of all…

The following hike is a high alpine hiking tour. Mountain experience, stamina, sure-footedness and good preparation are the best prerequisites for a successful and safe day trip. Please do not attempt it wearing sports shoes, normal street shoes or flip-flops! This ensures nothing will get in the way of an adventurous hike. Still have questions? The magic of the Dolomites in the Salzkammergut!

Mountain experience, surefootedness and plenty of condition is all required for the classic "Hike around the Gosaukamm". For this, one of the most beautiful high alpine tours, you should plan two days of your personal time. Preparation is everything! And if you pack your hiking bag with all the important things for a 2-day tour, then you will have more time for enjoyment.

A new mountain experience every step of the way

Scenically unique and beautiful alpine hike around a wildly rugged mountain group on the edge of the Salzkammergut in the midst of the unique natural and cultural landscape of Austria. Well developed, yet in places rocky and interrupted paths, are challenges for every mountaineer. Here, gentle and rugged are often just a stone's throw apart. The most beautiful place on this tour can be reached on the “Steigl Pass”, where you can get close t the distinctively shaped “Bischofsmütze” (Bishop’s hat). Since 1993, the highest mountain of the Gosaukamm has lost large parts of its southern and eastern faces - the yellow broken surface area, which reminds us of this hundred year rockslide, still sends rocks plummeting down into the depths.

Whilst the hike, on the well-marked trails around the Gosaukamm can be done in one day, why not round it off with an overnight stay at the “Hofpürglhütte”. A night in the hut with delicious snacks, a colourful alpine glow and a picturesque sunrise, will turn this 2-day trip into a unforgettable mountain experience.

Our tip: Especially in the hiking high season, the Hofpürglhütte is often fully booked; especially on the weekends. That is why we recommend you make an early reservation.
