Thrills above Hallstatt

Very special times require extraordinary sights. If you are looking for a little thrill at the moment and want to enjoy the breath-taking Alpine panorama of the UNESCO World Heritage region of Hallstatt Dachstein Salzkammergut, the imposing viewing platform on the Salzberg in Hallstatt is just the place for you. The "Skywalk" World Heritage View, as it is called, towers 360 metres above the roofs of the world-famous lakeside town. The view offered to the many visitors from near and far is more than spectacular: at its feet the World Heritage town of Hallstatt with the fjord-like Lake Hallstatt, before your eyes on the distant shore the town of Obertraun and the unique Dachstein panorama.

Known all over town

The world-famous visitor magnet is located directly below the former fortified tower on the Hallstatt Salzberg. The Rudolfsturm, named after the first Habsburg Rudolf I, was built in the years 1282 to 1284 by his son Duke Albrecht I of Austria as a fortified tower to protect the shafts and buildings of the Hallstatt salt mines.

The Hallstatt Skywalk can either be reached in a few minutes by funicular or via the picturesque serpentine path in around an hour's walk.

By the way: The Hallstatt Skywalk is particularly suitable these days for sending imposing pictures to loved ones at home via Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp. Family, friends and relatives will be delighted.

Short Distances

You can easily reach the magnificent "World Heritage" viewing platform in Hallstatt by taking the Salzwelten funicular railway. In the high season, the cable car runs every 15 minutes and takes you to the top station in about 2 minutes. However, if you prefer something sportier, you can hike up the Salzberg. The ascent via the serpentine path, which starts at the valley station of the Salzberg cable car, takes about an hour. Sturdy shoes are of course a prerequisite. See you on the Salzberg in Hallstatt!

Hike the Skywalk

Even if the Salzberg cable car is not running, nature lovers or hikers can pay a visit to the Hallstatt Skywalk. The footpath to the Salzberg begins directly at the valley station next to the Salzberg cable car and leads first over an asphalt road and then over the serpentine path in about an hour's walk to the Salzberg. Mountain boots or outdoor footwear are required. Please also note that in winter, depending on the weather (snow), the hiking trail to the Salzberg is not always passable. If you are unsure, ask the Hallstatt Salt Mine. The contact details can be found below under "Information at a Glance". We wish you beautiful views.
