BergeSeen Trail Stage 6

From Fuschl am See to Filbing

From the tourism office in Fuschl (in the town centre directly next to the church), the trail heads along the street in the direction of the lake, passes several hotels to the left, goes by the beach swimming area and arrives at a path on the right which leads into a side street. The trail follows this street for a short distance, then turns right and heads downhill to the lake. The route then goes along a beautiful lakeshore path until arriving at a swimming area which is bypassed by going left. The trail then continues along the lakeshore path for another kilometre until reaching a junction.

The trail then continues left uphill in the direction of Filbing to the main highway. On the opposite side of the street, the route follows a forest road for approximately 20 minutes until reaching a farmstead. Just after the farm, the trail turns to the left and heads uphill along a meadow path to a chapel. At this point, hikers will follow the long, but relatively flat, ascent along the thickly-forested northwest ridge to the Filbing, where they can enjoy vistas of Lake Fuschl on one side and the Watzmann Mountain on the other. The Filbing summit (1307 m) also offers spectacular views and marks the highest point in this stage.

From Filbing to Hintersee

From the summit cross, the trail continues along the ridge to a flat saddle. The small and charming Lake Filbingsee lies below to the left. However, the trail descends to the right through the forest to the meadows of the Sattelalm, where a wide meadow path arrives at the Schmiedbauer farm after a short time. By keeping right, hikers can arrive in 30 minutes’ time in Faistenau.

Our route, however, continues straight ahead to a country road, where it keeps to the right. After 800 metres, the trail forks left and then after an initial descent, begins a longer ascent to the community of Hamoosau. The trail passes a chapel and then leads downhill through the forest to the Raffl farmstead. It then continues on along an asphalt street to a curve.

From this point, hikers can quickly reach the inn Gasthaus Fischerwirt (rest point) by going right. However, the trail continues straight ahead from the curve and leads downhill to Lake Hintersee, where the road must be crossed.

From Lake Hintersee to Hintersee Village

The route continues to the left on a beautiful path along the lakeshore to a farmstead. The trail turns left and heads uphill to the street and across a bridge. After the bridge, the trail goes to the right through the forest to the most southern cove of the lake.

The trail follows a forest road back to the main road which it crosses. The route continues along a long hiking path on the beautiful banks of the Taugl River until arriving at the village of Hintersee.

Many prominent figures have explored this region: nobles like Archduke Johann and Empress Elisabeth, scientists such as Friedrich Simony, poets and authors like Nikolaus Lenau, painters like Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, musicians and composers such as Johannes Brahms. Did they ever think that hiking in the Salzkammergut might have no end? That they could tramp from one lake to the next and then onward to yet another? Day by day along the shores of crystal-clear waters? Week-long excursions through quiet valley forests, over sunny alpine meadows and up mountains fuelled by the anticipation of the next destination? Tips: Hiking in spring

The days in the Salzkammergut are getting longer. The temperatures are finally getting warmer, more and more hikers are heading to the mountains. But be careful: Especially in spring, there are a few things to consider: There is often still a lot of snow on the mountains, so be careful when crossing snowfields. After winter, you are usually still a bit "rusty", so warm up accordingly in advance and plan your tour carefully. Let your host know the planned route. This can lead to quick help in an emergency. But there's more to consider:
