© MTV Ferienregion Traunsee | Wandern und Wanderwege bei einem Wanderurlaub oder Urlaub im Salzkammergut: Fernwanderwege & Weitwanderwege “BergeSeen Trail“ Gasthaus „in der Kreh“ – Vorderer und Hinterer Langbathsee – Lueg – Taferlklaussee – Valerieweg – Steinbach am Attersee

First of all…

The following hike is a high alpine hiking tour. Mountain experience, stamina, sure-footedness and good preparation are the best prerequisites for a successful and safe day trip. Please do not attempt it wearing sports shoes, normal street shoes or flip-flops! This ensures nothing will get in the way of an adventurous hike. Still have questions? From Gasthaus in der Kreh to Lake Taferlklaus

(When staying overnight at Gasthof Windlegern or at the Hochsteinalm, plan 1 to 1½ hours more for this stage) From Gasthaus in der Kreh, the trail heads south across the street and the Langbath Stream and arrives after 300 metres at a forest road. The trails then leads to the right on this forest path, continues for a length of time and then goes over a bridge, keeping right, to a car park at the eastern shore of the ‘Vorderer’ Lake Langbath (40 minutes).
Following a forest road, the trail continues along the northern lakeshore to another particularly beautiful lake, the ‘Hinterer’ Lake Langbath (732 m). Following the steep Schafluckensteig (equipped with safety ropes), the trail leads to the Brunnkogel summit and subsequently the Hochleckenhaus alpine hut.
Heading back a short distance along the forest road, the trail forks left to climb to the Lueg pass (830 m). During the ascent, the trail crosses a forest road twice. From Lueg (trail marker, junction to Großalm), the route continues left on the forest road and after a curve, reaches level terrain. The road ends here.

Lake Taferlklaus to Steinbach am Attersee

The trail can be followed either to the left or the right around the lake. It then continues west and arrives after a short time at a ski lift. The route then takes the right ski slope uphill to a large car park and continues left on a forest road to a trail marker. From here, the Valerieweg (named for Archduchess Valerie, daughter of Emperor Franz Josef) heads left. The trail narrows and continues both up and downhill to the southwest until reaching a path which leads from the Kienklause mountain pass – past the Adlerspitzen peaks – to the Hochleckenhaus alpine hut.

The Valerieweg crosses the trail and leads onward through the woodland landscape to a forest road and then immediately thereafter descends to the Aubodenhütte (alpine hut). From this point, the trail heads straight on for a short distance, takes a left and then turns right. Following a wide path, the trail descends to the first houses of the Kaisigen community and continues downhill along the street to the town of Steinbach am Attersee.

Many prominent figures have explored this region: nobles like Archduke Johann and Empress Elisabeth, scientists such as Friedrich Simony, poets and authors like Nikolaus Lenau, painters like Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, musicians and composers such as Johannes Brahms. Did they ever think that hiking in the Salzkammergut might have no end? That they could tramp from one lake to the next and then onward to yet another? Day by day along the shores of crystal-clear waters? Week-long excursions through quiet valley forests, over sunny alpine meadows and up mountains fuelled by the anticipation of the next destination? Tips: Hiking in spring

The days in the Salzkammergut are getting longer. The temperatures are finally getting warmer, more and more hikers are heading to the mountains. But be careful: Especially in spring, there are a few things to consider: There is often still a lot of snow on the mountains, so be careful when crossing snowfields. After winter, you are usually still a bit "rusty", so warm up accordingly in advance and plan your tour carefully. Let your host know the planned route. This can lead to quick help in an emergency. But there's more to consider:
