Route
"Trophy Training Course F" from Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt (S422)
Dear cycling friends, the same applies to this tour: there are various entry points. We start our route description of this tour in front of the municipal office of the World Heritage town of Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt. Directly in the tentrum. For all those coming from outside, we recommend arriving with the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). For more information, please contact ÖBB directly. Of course, there are also various other entry opportunities that you can take advantage of.
We start at the municipal office in Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt (centre) and turn right into the market square. We follow the Salzkammergut Cycle Path (R2) in the direction of Hallstatt. After about 1.4 km, we leave the cycle path to the top left into Wiesenstraße, pass under the Salzkammergut Bundesstraße (B145) Salzkammergutstraße, which is on the banks of the Elbe. After about 300m we stay straight ahead at the fork in the road and ride uphill on asphalt in hairpin bends in the direction of the two Bad Goisern districts "Herndl and "Kogl".
We reach the Goisr district called "Kogl" (km4.1) after about 2.4km and drive directly in a straight line following the signs for 200m past the houses and thus cut off the right-hand bend and immediately later turn into the original path to the right (km4.3).
We continue on asphalt in a left-hand bend and we pass the crossroads "mit Namen Rehkogel" (km4.8) straight ahead into the goods road "Rehkogl" after about 500m and after another 200m turn left into "Kalkofengasse" (name of the alley).
We stay on asphalt for another 1.1km and turn right uphill (km6.1) into the goods road called "Wurmstein", which we only leave after another 2.1km to the left (km8.2) in the direction of "Rathluckenhütte" on asphalt.
Refreshment tip
This managed mountain hut is also a good place to stop for a bite to eat. Here you will find typical dishes from the Salzkammergut. A stopover always pays off!
After 100m we keep left at the fork in the road and after about 600m at km8.7 turn right in front of the Rathluckenhütte into the forest path to the "Ewige Wand".
The "Ewige Wand" is a striking rock passage that was made accessible by a path carved into the rock. It is a popular hiking destination and offers spectacular views of the Goisernertal and the Dachstein.
This is a shared trail that leads through the "Ewige Wand". Observe the rules of decency here and give priority to pedestrians.
After about 400m slightly uphill, we stay at the fork in the road (km9.1) on the contour line straight ahead in the direction of "Ewige Wand". After about 400m we cross the first (km9.5) of the two tunnels.
In principle, driving is allowed, but for many pedestrians we recommend pushing the few meters in the wall.
Helmet is a mustbe, especially painful to determine at the first head contact in one of the tunnels.
As soon as we have taken a myriad of pictures, after the wall we go down to the Fortstraße. Basically passable, but without riding technique at least the exit (km9.9) to the forest road is recommended.
We turn left and stay 700m to the quarry (km10.6) "Anzenaukogl" on the "Anzenbergstraße". Attention: Heavy goods traffic here!
Directly at the quarry, we turn left at a 90 degree angle into the old path, which we do not leave until we cross the Anzenbergstraße after about 900m and continue on the other side for about 300m to the "Anzenbergstraß" (name of the road) (km11.8) with heavy traffic.
For trail lovers and hungry guests, there is now the possibility to cross the road again and ride via the "Jodschwefelbadtrail" (name of the trail) directly to the "Weissenbachwirt" (name of a restaurant).
All others, who finish the round properly, now continue on gravel of the "Anzenbergstraße" with caution downhill to about 800m until we meet asphalt again in the Anzenau (km12.6).
We keep to the right, past the "Freilichtmuseum Anzenaumühle" (museum) and under the Salzkammergut main road (B145) we join the "Salzkammergut Cycle Path" (name of the cycle path) (R2) (km12.9) after 300m in the direction of the spa and imperial town of Bad Ischl.
We stay on asphalt until the "Traun Bridge" (name of the bridge) (km13.6) in Lauffen for 700m, cross the "Traun" (name of the river) and the railway line of the Salzkammergut railway line and immediately afterwards turn left below. After about 200m we turn left, drive under the railway line (13.8km) and follow the Traun upstream on a picturesque path in the direction of Weißenbach. After about 1.4km we pass through the village of Weißenbach (km15.2), cross the "Weißenbach" (name of the river) and 200 metres later turn right at the restaurant "Weißenbachwirt" (km15.4) into the Weißenbachtal.
About 200m later we keep to the right at the fork in the road (km15.6). From now on, it is constantly moderately uphill. We stay on the main path and neglect all branches. After about 1.6km in a left-hand bend (km17.2) we turn left and continue on the main path until we reach the "Weißenbachalm" (name of an alpine pasture) (Brunntalalm) (km23.5) after about 3.1km in a long left-hand bend (km20.3), staying on the main path after about 3.2km.
Past the first huts we turn left over the bridge of the "Weißenbach" (name of the river) and after the bridge left in the direction of "Chorinsky Klause" (km24.0), which we see after about 500m to the left of the path directly on the Weißenbach.
The "Chorinsky Klause" is a worthwhile destination, especially for nature lovers and hikers, as it offers a unique combination of technical monument and idyllic landscape. The hermitage is a relic of the historic timber drift in the Salzkammergut and an impressive example of engineering. The hermitage was once an important part of the timber drift, in which huge quantities of wood were brought down to the valley through the stream.
After another 800m we turn right into the forest road (km24.8) in a hairpin bend. About 500m later we turn left at the crossroads (km25.3) and after a right-hand bend about 1.9km later we stay at the crossroads (km27.2) on the left side of the main path for 1.2km in order to pedal up at this crossroads (km28.4) in a left-hand bend to the path in the right-hand bend, pass the highest point of the current round with an altitude of 948m and after about 900m reach the first viewpoint in Niedermuth (km29.3).
We turn sharply left, follow the signs and after about 200m we come to the goods road called "Muth II" (km29.5), into which we turn down to the left.
We follow the goods road winding downhill for about 2.4km to the crossroads (km31.9) and turn left down here, then after another 1.2km after the car park at the crossroads (km33.1) turn left downhill about 400m later again (km33.4) and turn right (km33.7) on a 300m downhill straight before the right-hand bend (km33.7) at the trees into the dirt road into the Bad Goisr district of "Ramsau".
After about 600m we turn right into "Ramsaustraße" (name of the road), stay on this for 1.4km, also through the forest and take the 2nd opportunity to turn sharply left in Gschwandt (km35.7).
About 600m later into the Bad Goisr district called "Gschwandt" we turn sharply right (km36.3), always stay on the main path to reach the "Traunbrücke" (name of the bridge in the middle of Bad Goisern) after another 1.7km to cross the Traun (name of the river) and pedal back to our starting point on the "Ramsaustraße" (name of the street), which is already used at the start.
