Themed tour ”Burial grounds“

Retracing history -
A unique guided tour to the roots of salt mining

The year is 1846, when the salt mine manager Johann Georg Ramsauer discovered the Hallstatt burial ground on the Salzberg high valley. This find was crucial for the naming of a whole cultural epoch, the Hallstatt period (800 - 400 BC). To this day, excavations of the archaeologists of the Natural History Museum in Vienna still take place there. We may be lucky enough to observe archaeologists doing their work during the 1 ½ hour tour, gazing over their shoulders and admiring the many precious grave goods.

For this guided tour we go up the mountain. To the "Salt Mountain". By cable car, of course. Directly in the village. The breathtaking panoramic view is always worth a photo! The important thing for this tour is that you should take your time. This tour is not for people in a hurry. On the other hand, you will learn a lot about the first people of Hallstatt and their lives more than 8000 years ago. A tour for history lovers.
